Tunisian associations warn of the grave impact of continuing to assign individuals to high positions in state institutions on basis related to patronage and party affiliations
The undersigned Tunisian associations warn of the grave impact of continuing to assign individuals to high positions and promote them on basis related to patronage and party affiliations instead of efficiency, experience and the ability to uphold the Tunisian national interest above narrow interests of political parties and other interest groups that are seeking privileges and material and ideological gains.
The undersigned associations -amid the current social and economic circumstances that are becoming more harsh on Tunisians’ lives since the outbreak of the pandemic- call for putting an end for this series of assignments which are notorious to its reputation on the international arena, ignore good governance rules, pillage the State’s resources, exhaust its institutions , and threaten the gains Tunisia has achieved since its independence, in order to protect rights and freedoms that was established in 2011.
We call upon the Prime Minister to:
- Learn the lesson from the previous governments’ failure in different domains which was stemming mainly from such assignments that was granted especially by the leaders of Ennahda Movement and Nidaa Tounes to reward relatives and supporters.
- Stop making such assignments and accelerate its revocation whenever the ineligibility of candidates or employees is proved or whenever it is proved that they were involved in corruption cases or cases of hostility towards the civil foundations of the State or any violation of laws, as the case of Osama Ben Salem, the Member of Shura council of Ennahda movement, and founder of Zitouna channel which is violating since its establishment the Audio-Visual law of 2012, and who is rumored all through the social media to be assigned soon according to plan of a Government Counsel.
